As I write this on Sept 7th, Labour Day, we are 25 percent done our harvest, being very thankful for a great crop. Like you, we are putting in long hours to reap the rewards, and hopefully, to dodge the frost, rain, winds, and assorted field threats. Over the summer, I’ve been listening to folks who are seeking to find a concrete plan for a future that seems quite uncertain. In this post, I want to share with you some of the best inspiration for farmers I have found. It includes podcasts, videos, and audiobook clips that can keep you company while your work. For advisors, I suggest you keep these links handy to encourage your producers and growers.

Audio Inspiration for Farmers
Lend me your ear as I share some much-needed inspiration for farmers in audio form—the perfect way to grow as you harvest. WARNING: the audio here could take hours of your time. But you’ll be on the field for HOURS…right?
Building Your Farm Legacy
My book, Building Your Farm Legacy, offers inspiration for farmers who want to build better communication on the family farm. For those who don’t have time to sit down to read a book, there is an audio version available! Here is the table of contents to help you scout it out. And you can also check out this audio clip sample. Interested in learning more? You can order the book (and audiobook) here.
Inspiration for Farmers of Generation 2
Are you a generation 2 successor? Do you feel like your farm succession/transition plan is stuck in neutral? Maybe your parents refuse to discuss the subject, leaving you frustrated, resentful, and fearful for your future? If so, this episode is right for you. First off, it doesn’t need to be this way. Secondly, you don’t have to travel this path alone. I’m here to help get the next generation unstuck. Tracey Brunet of Impact Farm Marketing is passionate about successful succession planning. These podcasts offer audio inspiration for farmers of different generations, so click to listen to my pointers for generation 1 and generation 2.
Building Farm Culture
Would you like to see more harmony and less conflict on your farm? In this podcast, I offer inspiration for farmers who want to build a stronger culture on the farm. Culture is the invisible glue that holds the farm business and the farm family team together. If you farm with family members, whether it’s a spouse or multi-generational farm family, you will want to listen to this podcast here.
Succession planning involves the transition of farm ownership, including labor and management. In this podcast, I offer inspiration for farmers who have been stuck trying to find an ‘equal’ plan for all because, as I explain, equal should be thrown out of the conversation, and you should focus on fair instead! Check out this podcast here.
Rural Realities Podcast
The Rural Realities Podcast comes from the University of Wisconsin Department of Agriculture and “focuses on helping farmers tap into their resilient nature by presenting advice from experts that can help reduce stress, improve a farm’s financial situation, implement good farm family communication skills, and more.” I encourage you to check out all the offerings via the link above, and I will share a couple of my appearances below.
In June 2019, I gave a keynote address at an event hosted by the Saskatoon Community Foundation, which aims to make Saskatoon the best community to live in. My presentation focused on sparking conversations on the farm, and you can give it a listen here.

Encouragement in the Field
I am connected as a succession transition expert on AGvisorPRO. Download the free app on your phone. If you want coaching, go to this link to reach out to me. There is a cost for my time, but there is also a way to get some free credits if you want to try it out.
AGvisorPRO is a technology company that addresses one of the farmer’s most serious constraints. How to get answers to solve their problems NOW. AGvisorPRO is a connectivity platform that is device agnostic and provides for algorithm matching of those seeking information to experts. We do this through audio, video sessions, instant messaging, and photo sharing which are archived for later reference.
We have built a complete monetization process into our platform effectively creating the uberization of knowledge and wisdom. This digital platform instantly connects farmers to industry experts (e.g. UBER). The plethora of industry experts to choose from is unmatched (e.g. SKIPTHEDISHES). A built-in algorithm matches farmers and advisors (e.g. E-Harmony). Interactions between farmer and advisor are rated by both parties. Reviews help farmers select the best-rated advisor for their issue (e.g. Amazon). The platform’s free ‘peer garden’ feature creates community (e.g. Facebook and Twitter). AGvisorPRO’s spatial location feature aggregates data from interactions that can be used to predict disease and pest outbreaks.
AG Society Creativity
An Ag Society in Alberta reached out to me to find a way to have a zoom meeting and use my books to encourage their farm county’s families. We are presenting “Strong Families…Strong Farms” on Zoom, and each family will get private time with me for an hour, plus many useful communication tools. Email me firstname.lastname@example.org if you are curious about how to serve your producers. I let Westjet know this week that I am likely not getting on a plane again this year, and neither are you!
As we continue to deal daily with the ups and downs of the GREAT PAUSE, remember to be thankful for hot showers, good food, and a great bed. Giving thanks with a grateful heart is a good way to frame each day. And listening to these podcasts and eBooks that offer audio inspiration for farmers is the perfect way to spend your time while you’re out in the field.
Talk does not cook rice. You’ve listened to my encouragement, now tell me what you are going to do to make your life better for your family and your farm?
I am listening.
